This is the first official “Action Email” from Kauai Indivisible.

Our goal is to help island residents take concrete, coordinated actions to ensure our elected officials fight for our priorities and values: respect, integrity, compassion, civil rights, religious tolerance, equal treatment, economic fairness, environmental stewardship, strong public education, affordable healthcare, science-based policymaking, and full democratic representation.

Once a week, we’ll send out an email like this with a few suggested actions tailored to our island’s specific issues and elected officials. We are an open group, and we welcome your participation, feedback, suggestions, and alerts about events upcoming on Kauai – just reply to this email address or follow the links in Action 3.
Indivisible’s guiding principle is that each of us can have an outsize impact by consistently seeking to influence our Members of Congress through town halls meetings, marches, protests, and phone calls. It’s important to remember that even the most progressive Members of Congress face many outside pressures – like party leaders and campaign donors. We need to ensure Brian Schatz, Maisie Hirono, and Tulsi Gabbard know that we are following their words and their decisions. Most importantly, we must empower them by allowing them to tell outside interests that their constituents are demanding they take the right stand.

In the next few weeks we’ll be improving our website and rolling out more opportunities to get involved. In the meantime, here are three simple actions you can take this week:

Action 1.

Print this one-page list of phone numbers for our state and federal officials and hang it on your wall!

Action 2.

Call the offices of Tulsi Gabbard, Brian Schatz, and Maisie Hirono and invite them to hold a town hall on Kauai. If you’ve never made a call before, don’t be nervous, their staff members are always gracious, and they do track your requests.

Sample Script:
Aloha! My name is _______. I live on Kauai, and my zipcode is _______. I’m calling today to say thank you for all the efforts you’ve been making on our behalf, and to request that [Senator Hirono / Senator Schatz / Representative Gabbard] schedule a town hall forum on our island. We are getting organized here on Kauai to give you as much support as we possibly can, and we’d love to hear more about your plans to resist the GOP agenda and your ideas for how we citizens can help you. Mahalo!

Action 3.
